Relief is near

Well, I finally got to talk with my doctor's nurse Monday evening just before they closed and they called out a prescription for the Zithromax. I took the first dose last night and already feel a lot better today. I am still pretty stuffy, but the pressure in my sinuses has been cut in half for now at least!

Of course the dumb Kansas weather probably hasn't been helping any. It was in the 50s all weekend and then 60 yesterday. I woke this morning to snow and 20 degrees! Goodness. I think it is supposed to stay cold for a while again.

Tomorrow I go to the doctor for my 36 week checkup. They're going to see if I'm dialating yet. I am hoping she'll schedule another sonogram so we can get one last peek at Mackenzie. Brady has an appointment after mine to check up on his ears to make sure the ear infection healed right. He seems a lot better so I think it's ok. For the first time in three months his nose has quit running for a whole week! Of course it's back to daycare tomorrow so we'll see.

Well, Brady's finishing breakfast (yes, it's 10:30 and he's finishing...we just got up at 10!!!) and I need to eat something so I'll update again later, probably Thursday or something...I have to go straight to work tomorrow after our appointments.

Exciting news

Jeremiah got some exciting news at work...they offered him the narcotics detective spot he had put in for late last year. Originally they had given it to a guy that had all the same qualifications but had a few more years of service than Jeremiah. That guy has been doing it for about a month and has decided that he'd rather be back out on the streets doing patrol.

His schedule is now really good - Monday through Friday 8 to 430 unless something comes up outside those times. It will really help us with day care...finally one of us has normal hours! Also, he'll get to see Brady a lot more and me too. He's still planning on taking a few weeks off when Mackenzie gets here but maybe not a whole month like he had originally planned.

So that's exciting. We have to go shopping tomorrow to get him some new dress casual clothes. He's been wearing his patrol outfit for five years now and doesn't really have anything that will fit that will work for his new job.

Well, he's at the movie theater doing off duty security and I'm getting tired so I'm going to go hit the hay. Good night!

Winter bugs

I'm almost starting to think that summer bugs that are creepy and crawly are not so bad in comparison to the winter bugs that you cannot see yet take over everyone's bodies and make everyone sick. All of the kids at daycare have been passing colds back and forth all winter. Brady has pretty much had a runny nose since Halloween. It got better for the two weeks he was home over Christmas, but two days after returning to daycare he ended up with a runny nose and fever and ear infection. He only went Monday this week and has hardly had a runny nose. Amazing. Unfortunately, what other option is there?

I also have gotten hit with the bug. I probably got it from a combination of day care from Brady and from the idiot freaks of nature that frequent work. People walk all around sneezing and coughing and wiping their noses all over everything. Seriously, one day my loss prevention manager friend was watching video and this random guy walks over to a table of t-shirts, picks one up, wipes his nose on it and puts it back. Um, yes, that's why you wash your clothes before you wear them the first time. People are sick...both with colds and just sick in the head.

So Monday, nearly two weeks ago I started feeling sick - runny nose, scratchy throat. No big deal, just your common cold. This week it took a turn for the worse by clogging up my sinuses on my left side. My left cheekbone hurt really bad and my teeth on that side were really hurting. I was pretty sure it was a sinus infection, but didn't know if there was anything that could be done with it being that I am pregnant. I finally broke down and went to the doctor Wednesday after not sleeping at all Tuesday night. The only way I got to sleep was by putting a heating pad on my face. So the doctor confirmed that it is indeed a sinus infection and should be treated with antibiotics. Here's the bad thing - I'm allergic to the two kinds of antibiotics you can take when you are pregnant. He told me there was a sinus rinse I could use to try to flush everything out and wrote a prescription for some pain medicine. He gave me a prescription for some Omnicef which he said is in the same group as one of the meds I am allergic to and said if it gets really bad I can decide whether I want to risk taking it and being allergic. He said it was either that or Zithromax. So I've been trying the sinus wash which isn't as bad as I expected...you have to shoot 8 oz of water in one side of your nose and have it come out the other. The water is mixed with some salty solution. It kind of feels like when you get water up your nose when you're swimming. It usually relieves the pain for 15 minutes or so. Other than that my face has been hurting like someone has hit me with a hammer. I have been off all week. I worked Monday and was scheduled off Tuesday. The rest of the time I've taken off under the doctors advice since I can't do a lot anyway with my face pounding. It's rather uncomfortable. So last night after another night of sleeping with a heating pad on my face I decided that I would ask mom about the antibiotics. She said I used to be able to take Zithromax with no problem.

So I called the Dr's office and asked the nurse to see if the Dr could call out some of the Zithromax because I'd feel more comfortable taking that since I knew it would be ok rather than risking filling the Omnicef which I have never taken before. She called me back a few hours later and said that my dr was off today and the other dr didn't want to do it. I asked why and she said, "Well, from what you described he said it sounds like you just have a bad cold." I was like, "um, hello, do you have my chart in front of you that has Dr. Phillips diagnosis in it? I saw him two days ago, he wrote me a prescription...all I want is a different one that will work better for me." After battling back and forth with two different nurses and supposedly two different doctors who they were talking to they said no, they wouldn't do anything. The one nurse had the gall to tell me to go to urgent care and see if they would do anything....I about jumped through the stupid phone. I said, "OK, so you want me to pay $50 to go see someone who can diagnose me with the same thing that my own doctor diagnosed me with when I paid him $20 the other day?" What a bunch of quacks. She said I could call my dr. on Monday. I said, honey, the only person I'm calling Monday is another dr's office because you people are absolutely ridiculous. I'm done.

So I'm still miserable and who knows if I'll ever get better. The pain medicine does absolutely nothing...it doesn't even help me sleep as promised. I don't think I'm even going to take it anymore. It says you can take it with food if it upsets your stomach, but that if you take it with food it will decrease its effectiveness. I took it without a lot of food the other day and my stomach was ok, but it made my chest feel like an elephant was sitting on top of it. I don't know what to do about it. Maybe I'll take one last dose before bed tonight and see if it helps. I doubt it. One thing is for sure though - I'm going to heat up my rice pack and put that on my face. Ugh. What a pain.

Daddy's boy

Our lights in our kitchen finally burnt out after three years so Brady decided he would help Jeremiah put the new ones in the other day. He likes to stand on the bottom of the ladder to make sure it doesn't go anywhere while J is on it. He was wearing his funny Christmas outfit with the elf hat and wouldn't take his coat off.

This is how I found Brady this morning when I went to get him up. One arm out the middle of the front of his pjs. When Jeremiah and I went in to check on him last night before bed he was sleeping all snuggly with his monkeys, but had one arm completely out of his sleeve. What a goof. Saturday morning when I went in to get him he was sitting in the corner of his crib with his pjs in a pile at the other end of the crib. I couldn't tell at first if he had his diaper on still. Then he rolled over onto his knees to stand up and I saw it was still on. I was somewhat relieved until he turned around to face me. He had somehow pushed his diaper down just in the front so that there was a little torpedo pointing at me. I about fell over laughing. I called Jeremiah and he came running. We both laughed for like five minutes. Of course Brady thought it was the coolest thing in the world. Luckily from what I could tell he only peed a little bit on his blanket and monkeys so they all got baths that afternoon! They needed it anyway!

Melea's visit

Last weekend...
Melea came over for a visit and brought her mom, dad and a truck full of goodies for Mackenzie with her! It was really cold, but Melea was all snuggly in her snowsuit!

Playing with babyfood jar lids.

Yum. Aunt Stacey shared her pudding with Brady!

Playing with a block puzzle.

"Can I drink this mom? My formula's tasting kind of bland these days?"

Brady kept going over to Melea and holding out his hand saying, "Help" and trying to pull her up.
Rock Chalk Jayhawk.

Finally, Christmas pictures

I didn't realize I had not put any of these pictures on here until today!
This was on New Year's Eve. We played poker and I think we gave up before anyone really won.

Brady and great-pa-pa reading the pop up book. It's Brady's favorite.

PRESENTS! Look at all the loot in Jeremiah's arms. He was the designated present holder. Brady got lots of cool Curious George things like bubble bath and stuffed animals.

Wee-ooo. This is the world's noisest truck! For some reason it plays the Village People YMCA song. It drives itself around the room too. Brady thinks it's funny.

Snack time. Opening presents takes time and many breaks.

On Christmas Eve Jeremiah, Rustin and Gerald sang Christmas carols. Brady looked out the window for Santa.

Yum..Look at all that food. Good grief. This was Christmas Eve dinner and boy was it good!
Still looking for Santa.

Well...

I was going to upload a bunch of pictures today, but the site is not working for that right now. I'll have to try back again later. I realized when I put the camera stick in the computer that I had not even put any Christmas pictures on here. Good grief. What a slacker. So I have those plus some funny ones from Melea's visit the other night. As soon as I can I will get them updated.

Still sick

Well, I'm still sick. I was hoping to feel better by now, but it's just not happening. I had my first weekend off since September this past weekend and I thought all the rest would help me get to feeling better. Last week Wednesday and Thursday nights I barely slept four hours each night. Friday and Saturday I slept a little better, then last night I was back to about four hours. My throat hurts off and on from breathing through my mouth because my nose is so stuffed and my sinuses are all clogged. I sound a lot worse than I feel though I think...very horse. Ugh. I took some Sudafed tonight which seemed to help a little bit, but not a lot. It just dried my throat out more and made it hurt worse!

Like I said, this weekend I rested a lot. Saturday we ran out to the store in the morning, and cleaned the house, but spent the afternoon and evening just hanging around the house. Stacey, Jeff and Melea came over that night to bring a load of baby stuff and watch the KU-MU basketball game on tv. KU won. Stacey and Jeff still have another trip to make with more baby stuff, but they brought over a bunch of clothes and diapers and the two baby vibrating seats and swing and exersaucer. Oh, and the playmat butterfly. Mackenzie will definately not need much when she gets here! Jeremiah, Brady and I went to Target yesterday and found a Diaper Champ on clearance so we grabbed it. It's pink and white. Brady has a Diaper Champ. We love it so much better than the Diaper Genies cause it takes regular trash bags and doesn't stink nearly as bad.

I think we really only need to get a few more things for Mackenzie. We have to get a changing pad and a wipe warmer, which we found at Target, but just haven't bought yet. Then we just need diapers, diapers and more diapers! Hopefully I'll be able to nurse her as long, if not longer, than I did with Brady so we won't have to spend a fortune on formula. It's just too expensive. We still have to get the mattress for her crib from Jenn too. They have a toddler bed ready for Brady whenever he is ready, and it has a mattress that fits in the crib so we're going to get it for Mackenzie. We decided this weekend that Brady is definately not ready for a toddler bed yet. Saturday while we were cleaning the kitchen and dining room Brady was playing in his room. He had been in there for a while when all of a sudden we hear this crash, boom and then crying and screaming. He had apparently tried to climb up on his Curious George chair and taken a flying leap off of it, hitting his eye and cutting right above it and right below it in the process. It isn't really that bad, just a really small scratch that bled a little bit. I've been putting some neosporin on it which seems to be helping. So far it hasn't turned black and blue, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did turn that way. So for now he's confined to sleeping in his crib. We're really going to have to do some toddler-proofing before we move to the bed from the crib!

Not a lot else is going on right now. We've got a quiet couple of weeks before the craziness begins. Jeremiah has to go to Iowa for a week in early February for training which means Brady and I will be on our own. A couple weeks after he gets home Mackenzie will be here! It's only four weeks from tomorrow. Can you believe it? Jeremiah is going to take off about four weeks when she gets here so that will be nice. We'll get to spend a lot of time with the kiddos before either of us have to go to work. I won't have to go back for 8 weeks. I think we're going to try to plan a weekend up in Omaha before I go back to work since it should be starting to get warmer in April before I have to return.

Well, I think I'm going to go take some Tylenol, squirt some saline spray in my nose and slather my chest with vaporub. The only thing that I really don't enjoy about being pregnant is that you really can't take anything when you feel cruddy to make you feel better. Tylenol and Sudafed only do so much. What I wouldn't give for some nighttime formula cold medicine right now to knock me out!

5 weeks to go...

I have a doctor's appointment in the morning, but today marks only five weeks to go until Mackenzie gets here! Everything has been going well. Mackenzie is moving around a lot every day. I've been having some dizzy spells off and on that I'm going to ask Dr. Bavishi about. I typically have good to low blood pressure, so I think that is probably all it is. Plus I have had a head cold off and on for a month so I'm sure my ears are kind of clogged up. Yesterday the strangest thing happened. I was walking down the hall at work heading to the conference room for staff meeting and I felt great. No problems. Then, I seriously turned a corner in the hallway and suddenly my nose was completely stuffed up, my head felt all fuzzy, my throat was scratchy and I felt exhausted. I've been all clogged up since then. How strange.

Brady is doing well. We had to take him to the doctor last Thursday because on Tuesday he had started getting a runny nose and then all of a sudden Thursday he got a fever and it just kept going up throughout the day. Come to find out he had yet another ear infection - his third one this winter. His regular doctor had said that if he had three in one season he would have to get tubes put in his ears. We weren't really excited about that idea and were planning on getting a second opinion. Luckily his doctor was on vacation last week so we saw another doctor in his office. She said she typically waits until 4 or even 5 ear infections in one season before she talks about tubes. So we're working on getting over this one with antibiotics and lots of kleenex. He's still got a pretty congested cough and really runny nose, but he seems like he is feeling a heck of a lot better. And he hasn't had a fever since Thursday.

Jeremiah has settled into the evening shift at work. He's enjoying the hours, and the fact that he has Fridays and Saturdays off. Last weekend we got to go to the sports show downtown before I had to go in on Saturday. They were giving away free life jackets to the first 200 kids so we got a new one for Brady for the boat. His baby one is too small now, so Mackenzie can wear it and he can wear his new one!

We got rid of our dreaded Sprint cell phones today. The service on them was getting stupid. The Sprint headquarters are in Overland Park, like 20 minutes from our house, yet we dropped calls all the time and had horrible service in lots of different places. One time we were at Applebees by Stacey's house and we were on roaming. Our contracts were up so we figured we would make our escape while the getting was good! We switched to AT&T. I was pretty disappointed that even though their colors are blue and orange that they do not carry any orange phones! I love orange, yet I have never seen an orange cell phone. It makes me sad. So I got a pink one and Jeremiah got a slate grey one. They are the thin Razor ones. Pretty nifty. We also got some bluetooth headset things so that when we are driving we can be hands free with the phones.

The thing I like best about Jeremiah working the evening shift is that I can watch whatever I want on tv. The bad thing is there is nothing on tv that I even like anymore. I usually watch MSNBC after Brady goes to bed. I turned it on tonight while I played with my new phone...unfortunately it was the democratic debate. Whoopty-do. I have never really watched a debate before, and now I know why. It was really just a bunch of back and forth bickering between Hillary and Obama. I'm over it.

I was going to take a picture of Holly tonight, but when I got up to get the camera she moved...she had been laying on the couch in a really funny position. She climbed up there, dug around with one of the throw pillows then laid her belly on top of that one and used two others to prop up her chin. She was stretched all the way out hugging the one pillow like a big old lazy person. Now she and Amber are sharing the love seat and Ginger is curled up on the floor amid all of Brady's toys.

Well, I better get to bed. My doctor's appointment is at 9 so I'm going to have to get up a little early to get everybody going so we can get there on time! I'm off this weekend...my first weekend off since September so I'm really looking forward to that (although it will be spent mostly doing dishes, laundry and cleaning the house!). I'll update more soon!

Comparison pics

Remember this photo...
This picture cracks me up. It is from when I was 38 weeks pregnant with Brady. It's like the ghost of pregnant ginormousness to come! Look at how much bigger my belly got in just 7 weeks...the next picture is from 31 weeks.

I found this old picture of me at 31 weeks pregnant with Brady. Then I realized I was 31 weeks when we had the pictures taken last week...and I was wearing the same sweater! How funny. I think my belly looks about the same, but I think my face looks fatter with Brady than with Mackenzie. Hmmm. Maybe it's the hair.

Me and Brady 31 weeks.
Me and Mackenzie 31 weeks.

Baby update

I had my 32 week doctors appointment this morning. We're getting down to the wire - 7 weeks to go! Everything is going great with Mackenzie. My belly measures just the right size for 32 weeks and her heartbeat was strong at 141 beats per minute. Dr. Bavishi looked at my weight gain and said I have gained 35 pounds so far this time. Then she looked to see where I was at 32 weeks with Brady and I had gained 36 pounds! I'm right on track to be exactly where I was at the end with Brady: Heffelump. Oh well. I lost it all last time, I can do it again! I really didn't think I was getting as big as I was with Brady. Maybe the hormones are blocking my perception of myself in the mirror. When I was pregnant with Brady I didn't think I was that ginormous either until I saw pictures of myself later down the road.

My next doctors appointment will be in two weeks when I am 34 weeks along. We'll see then if we may get to have another sonogram. I hope so. We've only had the one this time. With Brady we had 8 by this point! I want to get another sneek peek at Mackenzie before she comes out. I think we had one last one around 36 weeks with Brady to make sure he wasn't running out of room or fluid in there. I know Mackenzie is definately making the most of the room she has in there. She's kicking and squirming a lot. And growing. I've been having a lot of stretching pains lately on my sides. Luckily she hasn't been as bad about sticking her feet under my ribs like Brady did. That was really painful. I haven't had heartburn as bad this time either so she may be bald. I hear that babies with lots of hair make you have heartburn. It's an old wivestale, but I sure had heartburn with Brady and he sure came out with a head full of hair!

Since it's already 11 p.m. I better get to bed. We've been staying up late the past several nights playing cards and having fun. Everyone went home today so it's pretty quiet in the house. Brady and I didn't know what to do tonight with just the two of us! He was sad to see his grandma leave today. Greatgrandma and Greatgrandpa left before he got up so he said goodbye to them last night. Today he was looking for "pawpaw." Jeremiah said when he and Brady dropped Grandma Robin off at the airport Brady started crying. Luckily Grandma has a two-year plan to move from Jersey to here. Hopefully it will all work out. I know Brady would like having all his grandmas close by. He gets to see Nana Joyce and Pawpaw Don tomorrow which he is pretty excited about!

Jeremiah had to work an overlap shift tonight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. so it's just me, Brady, the cat and the three dogs...two of whom are snoring under the kitchen table right now! I have to work tomorrow, but not until noon so if I don't fall right to sleep it won't be such a big deal. Good night!
